The Explorer is currently berthed in the Edinburgh Dock in Leith Docks. Photo ID is required to gain entry. Children under the age of sixteen and pets are not permitted to enter the docks.
Due to the construction of the Explorer as a working trawler, accessibility on board the ship is limited.
On board, between deck levels there are several very steep stairways which visitors must be able to go down backwards. In addition there are low ceilings, narrow corridors and a number of watertight doors with a high coaming to step over.
Unfortunately this means the Explorer is not wheelchair accessible, though the deck of the ship can be viewed from the dock side.
The tour is also not suitable for people with restricted mobility or those who dislike confined spaces.
Sensible footwear is required while onboard and as work is continuously being carried out to maintain the ship, the possibility of dirty hand rails etc is ever present
There are no toilet facilities available onboard. Basic toilet facilities are available on the dockside.
There is no charge for a tour. The Explorer depends on contributions to maintain her and donations are welcome.
